"Are You Hiring?”
(Please scroll down and read carefully.)
As we go through our day at Combat Cleanerz, people often ask, “Are you hiring?”
For us, there is only one correct response to that question. We are always looking to hire the “right” person.
Who is the right person?
The right people for Combat Cleanerz take pride in what they do for a living. They understand that they represent a great cleaning company. We don’t kid ourselves – we’re not rocket scientists or heart surgeons. We’re people who are bound together because we need to work to support our families and we’re proud to be the best.
What’s the work like?
Different facilities have different needs. The work, however, breaks down into basic tasks: vacuuming, mopping, dusting, taking out the trash, cleaning carpets, stripping and refinishing floors and more. Most of it happens during the evening hours although weekend days can get busy if you are on the floor crews.
By and large, the work is pretty peaceful. There may be some surprises here and there but night in and night out, we pretty much know what to expect. For a person with a true sense of work ethic and a sense for detail, the job works well.
Physically, a good, solid cleaning shift can be like doing a long aerobics class or running up a mountain. There is some heavy lifting and hustle involved so if you’re not into that, you won’t be into this.
Who are we?
We joke a lot about being cleaners.
Not that we don’t take our work seriously because we do. But we’re not just cleaners. We’re students, we’re mothers, we’re aspiring pastry chefs, we’re members of the National Guard, we’re fabric designers, we’re bartenders, we’re musicians, we’re writers, we’re political analysts and one of us is even a vegan.
We’re cleaners who are also productive in other areas of our lives. It’s that sense of achievement and goal orientation which carries over into our workspace and produces quality results.
We try, however, to do our best to structure the work so the job and the wages we earn fit into the rest of our life. After all, we were human beings long before we became Combat Cleanerz.
What positions are available?
That all depends on a bunch of different factors but the breakdown goes like this:
Trainee: This is where you start. Everyone has done at least a little cleaning around the house and some people clean all the time but after someone is hired, it is our job to train that person how Combat Cleanerz clean. There is a difference between straightening up your kitchen before Aunt Edith shows up and cleaning a school or a medical facility.
Crew Member: After training, you’re ready to clean with us. You’re given the schedule and time and equipment you need to do a great job.
Supervisor: The person with whom the buck stops. We like supervisors who are comfortable with themselves and their ability to “lead.” That gives them the confident edge they need to foster a structured yet relaxed atmosphere when they work with our cleaners. We don’t like “yellers and screamers.” Our supervisors work with people – not against them.
Job Description for a Crew Member:
Duties include cleaning restrooms, restocking dispensers, changing garbage cans and liners, vacuuming floors using a Backpack Vacuum, dusting, mopping and several other cleaning tasks. Some heavy lifting is involved. Once you are trained, you will be expected to perform these tasks in a careful and efficient manner.
You will be required to dress neatly. You will be required to be punctual. If you are working on a site which is active, you will be required to maintain etiquette and politeness at all times in any interaction with the facility’s staff.
In addition to these things, you will be required to develop an eye for detail as you are working. The difference between a good cleaning job and a great one is only a few percentage points. Those few percentage points are the result of a cleaner who is always willing to go the extra step, who is willing to be observant and to do a great job.
